General

Kokkalti is a city located on the western coast of the main island of Vasilikos. The city serves as the southern capital, and is mostly populated by chromatic dragonborn. It is the hatchplace of Caluprax Fiampheacnerruath.

Description

Kokkalti is a coastal town, built where the cliffs of the island meet the beach. Up on the cliff stands the Red Keep - home of house Ignis. Directly below the cliff edge is the mouth of the Verbog river which has been expanded ad enclosed on one side by a large walled structure, which serves are both docks and a defensive installation. Inland lays the main city, which has buildings designed to merge practicality and beauty. The older designs focused on resilient, tough buildings, ones which could defend from draconic attacks, as it is what the first settlers were used to building. Many of the most iconic designs include stone edifices, though other materials such as wood and brick were also employed. The more modern buildings, now feature bright colours, representative of the noble house they are associated with, and focus on form over function.

Society

Demographics

Kokkalti is populated primarily of chromatic dragonborn with metallic dragonborn being the second highest demographic. Unlike what one might expect, the majority of dragonborn do not bear the bright pure colours of their draconic ancestors. Most of the people have muted or dull colours after thousands of years of living on this plane. High society consists of the five noble houses of Ignis, Astrappi, Dilit, Miasma and Glacier, each corresponding to a different colour. Many smaller houses make up the larger ones, all constantly vying for control. The alliances between houses are constantly shifting, with some resorting to foul play to get rid of their rivals. Each of the major houses focuses on a different industry or trade and keeps different allies, roughly as follows:

House Leader Trade Allies
Astrapi Astrapi Leader Pearls, Marble and Stonework House Glacier
Dilit Dilit Leader Bronze, Copper and Brass House Glacier
Glacier Eradorim Fiampheacnerruath Jewelry, Gemstones House Astrapi, House Dilit
Ignis Ignatios Clepul Alcohol (Wine, Ales etc.) and Fishing House Miasma
Miasma Salhadur Ulxoth Silver, Steel and Gold House Ignis

The other notable group in Kokkalti is the Cult of Tiamat. Although worship of Tiamat is largely frowned upon, many of the noble born feel a closer connection to the Dragon Queen and pursue her worship. They believe that Tiamat is the true mother of all chromatic dragons and will return to this plane with an army of chromatic dragons to destroy the metallic dragons with all her worshippers being spared and lead to rule over a new kingdom. The vast majority of members say that Tiamat will come once Unthar is dead to destroy the untrue dragons and finish the war that never truly ended. The leaders of this cult are referred to as the Heads of Tiamat.

History

Early History

Kokkalti was founded by the first chromatic dragonborn to escape Exoria with Unthar. Hundreds of years ago, it waged war against Voreiovraa, lead by the Thanin brothers - Silas and Porton. After they were defeated, Unthar established the prostatis system, which continued for centuries. Kokkalti would become a large trade port, which dealt in luxury and specialty goods, from all over Velinde.

Defeating Porton

Kokkalti provided naval support in the war against Metuwa. It's troops would help the effort by assaulting the vampire from the sea, where they had a difficult time defending themselves due to their aversion to flowing water.

End of the 4th Era

The leadership of Kokkalti would undergo a change, when Caluprax Fiampheacnerruath, now a white dragon thanks to Tiamat, would seek rulership of the city. An agreement, brokered by the Order of the Brown Dragon was reached with Unthar, by which worship of Tiamat would be legalized in Voreiovraa and Caluprax and him would jointly lead the country as a council of two. This provided a long missing representation of the chromatic people in the leadership of Voreiovraa.
