Gemma first met the party, when Cassini Tir'ithil visited her temple searching answers for Arvandor. She denied knowing of the figure, but helped him learn more about the basics of Sehenine's worship, even inviting him back for an evening rite. The rite in question was a funeral, which Cassini and Otto attended. Before the event, she talked with Otto and Cassini once more, and Otto noticed a brochure for the auction on her desk, where the telescope was circled, showing her interest. The ffuneral itself, was interrupted, when a group of assassins, tried to slay Gemma and Cassini. They narrowly avoided death, with the help of Otto and the perpetrators were slain.
The next day, Gemma was surprised to find the two of them in front of her house, together with Sapphira and Shiek. She was clearly uncomfortable, but invited them in and they begin discussing the attack and possible connections to Arvandor. During the conversation, she began seeing Cassini as a servant of the god and her demeanor changed, becoming colder. She eventually made it clear that she would do everything in her power to oppose Arvandor and those who serve him and urged Cassini to abandon the god and hand over the telescope to her. He refused and she asked the group to leave her house.
After their departure, she spoke to an unseen figure, though to have been the Disciple of the Moon, asking it to take care of them. The next evening with the help of her couatl and the disciple, she arranged for the telescope to be stolen from Milivoj and brought to her underground vault. The same night, it was stolen back by the party and she didn't take any action until the auction.
During the auction, she was surprised by the appearance of Kalen Hornraven, but decided to take advantage of the situation, by stealing the telescope. Her efforts and those of the disciple were prevented by Valeyo and Emisar Niva Kavka, causing her to resort to violence.
