Description
Ruben Atanasoff, is the current patriarch of the Atanasoff family. He holds vast influence in the region surrounding Stendolin and is a savvy political player with connections to Dragomir and the far north.
Appearance
Ruben is a bright red tiefling with prominent horns, clad in opulent clothes decorated with all manner of gemstones. He has a clean-shaven and friendly looking face and is almost always seen smiling. Despite being only a few years older than his brother , Ruben maintained more of his youthful looks, the life of a rich businessman being kinder to him than days spent in doing dangerous lab experiments.
Personality
Ruben if a boisterous person who tries to dominate the conversation. His life of wealth and his business savvy have given him the tools and knowledge to excel in high-society. Knowing when to compliment and when to insult, he is a gifted orator. This does leave him often, ignoring what others say and imposing his will on them. This overbearing attitude is largely responsible for his siblings choosing to live outside the Atanasoff Estate. To more serious folk, like the giants, he may come across as a rich fool, who spent his life in comfort and has no experience of real struggle.
Biography
Early Life
Ruben was the firstborn of the Atanasoff couple and thus the heir to their family's vast fortune. He spent his youth being groomed for the succession and taught the family business. It appears that his siblings didn't get along with him the best, but he appears largely ignorant of that fact.
After taking over the business, Ruben has made multiple political moves. He seems to be well travelled, having visited Klipperkant and donated to the Stormstrike clan, in an attempt to earn their favour. He claims to have dined with the king and even hosted him at the manor, multiple times. He also said he was looking for a woman of "appropriate stock", to start a family with, but has thus been unsuccessful.
Current
Ruben met the party when the arrive at his estate looking for a safe place to leave Vincent. He was happy to see his brother after so long, and surprised to see that he had made friends. He was welcoming to the group and despite Vincent's problems with him, Vincent seemed confident he would keep him safe. When asked about their family history, Ruben was glad to share the story of his father's fortune and their replenishing gemstone mines. He offered his hospitality, but the group needed to get to Stendolin so they took their leave.
A week later, Ruben was visited by a "friend" from the Stormstrike clan - Lucas. The storm giant had appeared in a clap of thunder, which had made the party rush to the estate, worried about the safety of Vincent. When they arrived, they saw Lucas and Ruben chatting and laughing. Ruben greeted them and told Lucas they would speak more later. He told the party of how he befriended the storm giant and assured them that all was well. Later in the evening during dinner, the party asked about his estate's ground, having made some interesting discoveries in the gardens. He told them of the landscaper Lance Kafyavo, who had done much of the planning.
The following morning they departed for Stendolin, together with Lucas and a very eager Vincent, who wished to get away from his brother.
Relationships
Vincent
Ruben seems to love his brother and is overjoyed to see him after so many years. He seems oblivious to Vincent's dislike of him, or at least doesn't show it.
Diane
Much like with Vincent, Ruben appears to care deeply for his sister, while ignorant of her issues with him. There does, however seem to be some tension, regarding her second husband Tomo, who he appears to disapprove of, due to his low status.
Lazlo
Ruben sees Lazlo as a trusted servant, who has been with the family since his father's time. He relies on him to keep the house in order and seems ignorant of his true nature and purpose.
