He is currently the royal consort to his husband King Estavere Beaumont.
Appearance
Commander Vettel is a 175cm tall human man, with wavy dark blond hair. He has a medium length beard and a moustache. His hair is cropped at the side and left longer on top. Captain Vettel, is most often seen wearing his uniform and armour, with a red cloak for formal occasions. His most notable characteristic is his left arm, which has been replaced with a mechanical one, created by Hector Blanchnetta, which can unfold into a shield, bearing the symbol of Colchester.
Personality
Overseer Vettel is a well-meaning and dutiful man. He is a brave leader, who cares for his allies and subordinates, as demonstrated when he lead his squad against the Hydra and Manricore attacking Colchester, when all other guards had retreated. His quick ascention up the ranks, has forced him into dealing with multiple disasters firs hand. These experiences have made him an adept planner and have further developed his strategic mind, making him able to focus on the big picture - a necessity for his current role as consort. He has the utmost respect for the law, but doesn't enforce it cruelly and can be persuaded to look aside when it is for the good of the people, as shown by his somewhat lenient treatment of the Order borrowing city property, such as books from the library or the portable hole, both of which he later insisted they return.
Biography
Early life
Born in Colchester to a working family, Sebastian Vettel joined the city guard as a young man. There he truly found his calling - helping and keeping his community safe. His talents lead him to an early promotion to the rank of captain at the age of 24.
After meeting the Order
Before the Fiend Incident
In 772Y 4E, Captain Vettel's life was changed forever, by his meeting with the Order of the Brown Dragon. During the Portal Incident, a large portal to the Deadlands had opened in Colchester, along one of the major thoroughfares. Heaps of sand spilled through and with them monsters of all varieties. Sebastian was part of the city guard's troops, fighting off the creatures and most of the small ones were quickly dealt with. Soon however, the real threat appeared. A huge, 5-headed serpentine creature walked through the shimmering gate - a hydra. When the guards when attack it and remove one of it's heads, two more would take its place. A small while later a manticore would also fly into Colchester and faced with these 2 monstrous enemies most of the guards fled.
Captain Vettel and his squad were the only ones left at the scene, fighting off the beasts and protecting the civilians, before the Order arrived. After both of the threats were defeated Captain Vettel and the Order met and a friendship was born. From then on Vettel became the point of contact in the city watch for the Order, and without a doubt the government representative they trusted most. They would warn him of threats relating to the five of the dragons which Porton had made deals with. When the truth of Lex and Ardrelle's plan came to light, he was one of the two people the Order warned, the other being High Priest Matthew.
Between his bravery in the Portal Incident and his help with stopping the death of the Council at the hand of fiends, Captain Vettel's reputation had improved to the point that he became one of the leading officers of the city watch.
Devastation
A dark day for all people of Colchester when two dark winged shadows appeared above the clouds. Having just exited a meeting with Tai Morgana, the two of them looked up in horror, as a enormous black dragon, began spewing acid onto city. Soon a smaller one followed and the city was engulfed in flames, chaos and death. The Captain began rallying the guards, to evacuate people to safety and try and stage a defense against the dragons. The dragons however were there to send a message, the large one used magic to carve a hole underneath the Mage's Guild plunging it into the darkness bellow. This act alone diverted the river's flow causing it to sweep thousands of people to their death. Eventually all that could be seen in the sky were the two shadows flying overhead, the smoke of a city set ablaze, which was formed using magic to spell out - "The Order of the Brown Dragon has brought you destruction".
After the Order arrived and chased the dragons off, killing the smaller one, most of the city's guards were already dead. The Crown Prince Estavere Beaumont, had been in the city during the incident and had suffered an injury to his leg. When he summoned, all of the remaining city leaders to him in order to plan their next steps it became clear that Captain Vettel was one of the only Captains of the watch to survive the attack. The captain himself was also injured, losing his left arm from the elbow down. This wouldn't stop him however, as he quickly learned to live with his injury and continue on with his duties. In this time of great need, he was issued an emergency promotion, by the prince to Commander of the Colchester City Guard.
War with Astrium
The next few months were spend, recovering bodies, figuring out how to house people and beginning to rebuild the city. At this point Commander Vettel spend less time walking the streets of the city and more in war rooms, deciding what to do next, together with the Crown Prince and Tai . To make matters worse, there was word of Astrium's troops mobilizing and marching eastward - towards Colchester. Having grown closer with the Prince, Commander Vettel now acted as his right hand within the city, as well as his personal protector. Thankfully, Hector Blanchnetta who had recently returned to the city, offered to construct a metal prosthesis for him, one which could fold out into a shield, allowing him to retain his sword and board fighting style.
Soon after, Astrium declared war and the Commander had a city to defend, a city with no walls, no troops and no morale. Thanks to the efforts of the Order, a full scale attack by the Astrium army was prevented, but they did warn the Commander of an assassination plot against the Prince, lead by Arcanist Saxel. In order to protect him, Commander Vettel and his most trusted men, moved the Prince to and old blacksmith's building to hide his locations. Unfortunately, using her arcane talents Saxel and her men found the building, but were intercepted by the Order, who killed Saxel. During that however, some of the battlemages made their way into the blacksmith's which the Commander killed, defending the Prince.
Defeating Porton
In the following months, the Commander was busier than ever before. There was an influx of builders and craftsmen, returning to Colchester to take on the bountiful work that rebuilding the city offered. With all of the responsibility laid on him, he now served as the city's defacto leader. This would be made official after the passing of King >NAME HERE<, when the now King Estavere named him Overseer of the City of Colchester. Vettel accompanied the King to the first Council of Flottyem, organized by the Order and Unthar. There he and the King supported the Order's proposition of a united front against the Vampires of Matuwa and Porton Thanin. This Council also ended the war between Astrium and Medora, with both countries agreeing that dealing with this other threat took priority.
The Commander would serve as a military aide to the new King in the coming conflict, escorting him to war rooms and when meeting the troops. The Commander took part in the battle to retake Erlrinner, which had been taken over by the Vampires, while the civiliansillians were evacuating. He would also be present at the end of the war - the final assault on the Dead Court.
The Staircase
What followed after was half a year of relative stability. Work was overflowing, with the increased efforts in construction and rebuilding caused by the Order's involvement in constructing a new city district and expanding city walls. Some attacks did still occur in the city, notably a mind flayer assault on the Order's house, but these were minor incidents compared to what had passed. The Commander grew ever closer with the King during this time, taking multiple trips to visit him in Covenport. He also became close friends with Tai and the new dragonborn friend of the Order - Skonis.
The peace continued, as the Order was mostly involved in events outside of the Material Plane. Until, one night the Commander awoke to see a familiar figure standing over his bed - Arcanist Saxel. He was incapacitated and brought to the Black Bastion of Bane, where he was disguised as a cultist. He was killed by Quiggly, who saw him as an enemy due to his disguise - all a part of Saxel's ploy to get revenge on the Order. He was soon brought back to life by Kalen and forgave the Order for the incident.
The final great challenge the Commander had to deal with was the Hour of Madness - the period between Tharizdun unsealing and subsequent resealing by the Order. Having received prior warning, by Sar, the Commander prepared the city for the event and managed to ensure that the onslaught of aberrations were held off without significant casualties.
End of the 4th Era
Towards the end of the Era, the extent of Commander Vettel's relationship with the king would become public and the two would be married, making Sebastian Vettel the Royal Consort.
Relationships
Order of the Brown Dragon
The first meeting with the Order of the Brown Dragon, happened when they fought side by side against the Hydra. This kicked off a friendly relationship, where the Captain would help the Order when prisoners were handed to the guard, or there was a mess in the city that needed dealing with after a fight. The Captain saw them as a solution to problems, which the city leaders could not or would not deal. The Order preferred dealing with him than with any other government officials and so as they improved their standing, so did the Captain. It was him that they turned to with the information about the devils infiltrating the council and he trusted they word enough to help deal with the fiends.
Throughout the year that followed, he became even better friends with the Order. When the Devastation of Colchester transpired, many blamed the Order due to the message in the sky, that Gazzarel had written. The Captain was one of the most vocal proponents of the fact that the Order's efforts against Porton are crucial as otherwise he would not have gone out of his way to stage this attack, and that they are not to blame for doing the right thing. They were thus delighted to hear of his appointment as Commander of the City Guard. The months of wars and troubles that followed kept him working closely together with the Order, especially Tai.
When all is said and done, to him the Order is a group of friends, who despite they unorthodox approaches, he trusts to defend his people. To the Order he is their longest standing and closest ally.
Estavere Beaumont
The two of them would first meet, after the Devastation of Colchester. Both having a huge responsibility thrust onto them in a time of crisis and both having been hurt in the attack, the two men had a lot in common. Many of their days would be spend working together and helping each other deal with this overwhelming situation. Vettel became the Prince's right hand man, someone to lean on, not just physically, but emotionally. After ascending to the throne, the now King would still keep Vettel close, as the two men trusted each other above all. The repeated hardships that they experienced together, saving each other's lives and improving them for the better lead to them eventually getting together.
Tai Morgana
The Captain saw a kindred spirit in Tai, just as he himself had been the middleman between the Order and the City once, she now served the same role. The two worked closely together for years, as while the Order had many ideas for Colchester, they were seldom there to take part in the planning and day to day logistics. Tai's help became so invaluable that he had her help out with work related to managing the city itself. During the many crises faced by Colchester, the two of them would be left to pick up the pieces and grew to be close friends due to it. He trusts Tai enough, that she was one of the first people to find out about the Commander's relationship with the Prince, something she kept secret even from the members of the Order, at the Commander's request.
